Philomathia Forum 2017: Data Science and Sustainability

Apr 20, 2017 - 08:30 AM
Berkeley Energy and Climate Institute
2594, Hearst Ave 3rd

Floor Berkeley,
ZIP: 94720

Data Science has rapidly become an important professional specialism, where large datasets of spatial and temporal information are assembled and manipulated in order to improve the understanding and management of complex systems. Many recent efforts aim to apply data science to solve critical environmental sustainability problems. Some efforts to be discussed in this Forum include advanced grid integration of renewable energy with storage, improved efficiency through smart buildings and electric transportation, and mitigated climate change through improved air quality. Across academia, government, and industries both small and large, data science is being used to better understand energy and the environment, motivate policy, and shape businesses.
